Malaysia banned half helmet

PUTRAJAYA: Half-shell helmets may soon be taken off shelves in motorcycle accessories shops.

"They are now seen on roads because there is still a loophole in the Motorcycles (safety helmets) Rules 1973 which does not define a standard helmet," said Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh. He said the department was in the midst of amending the law to prohibit the sale, distribution and use of the helmets, and it could come into effect as early as January, next year. "The half-shell helmets are illegal and have never been approved by Sirim." He also said that the department was working out details on enforcement and whether its officers would be able to go from shop to shop to confiscate the helmets.
Although Suret was unsure of how the helmets entered the Malaysian market, he reckoned they could be smuggled from neighbouring countries. He also said that the department had been organising road shows for the past one year to get motorcyclists to exchange the half-shells for an open-face helmet for free. "Malaysians are generally gullible. The helmets have been illegal all the while, but if they are sold in shops, they will still buy them," he said. The fashionable half-shell helmets are distinctive by its bowl shape and is a favourite among superbikers for its comfort and light weight. It is, on average, cheaper than the standard open-face helmet. The price of a half-shell helmet starts from RM20, depending on the brand. However, the helmets tend to flip up with strong winds or when riding the motorcycle at high speeds due to lack of support behind the head. "Wearing a half-shell helmet is as safe as not wearing any helmet at all," said Suret. According to a local helmet manufacturer, the helmets are still rampantly sold in small towns where enforcement is lax. "Although it is not sold in the open or out on display, some dealers still stock them." According to a study conducted by the department, 80 per cent of fatalities involving motorcyclists were due to serious head injuries from not wearing helmets properly or wearing helmets not up to safety standards. This includes the half-shell helmet

This is recent newspapers cutting from local malaysian newspapers,Starting January 2009 ,half helmet is illegal to use in Malaysian Road(sound like Illegal Immigrant but better than the malay word diharamkan:more sound haran food hehe). So the shop that selling this half helmet also directed to syop selling the helmets.Do you know why the helmets is ordered to be illegal in malaysian Road users.Just look at the picture aboved.
As far as i known, there is several type of half helmet,if you are bikers and you use helmet you know what i mean, there is type of helmet that is very simple made and the helmet is really cannot be use for motorcycle, even on the helmet itself there is warning saying that "Not for motorcycle"maybe its only use for by cycle users. The safety of the said helmet is very low..like apollo helmet. The fiber layer is so thin and easyly crack when fell down, just imagine what happened to your head??
This type of helmet ehmm its not half helmet but poodle helmet, ususally the easyriders and choppers riders like to use this type of helmet. Its a style but the safety hmmm....judge it by yourself..

as i mentioned before there is lot of type half helmet we can look in the market,i've used several type of it and the better one is SGV Rider,i considered it as not so hal helmet, its a hybrid between open face helmet and half helmet. The pattern is just like SL 55 Red Flame abovedEven you are using the full face or open face helmet but you using it improperly,so its just like you're not using a helmet heheh

The banned of half helmet or in collocial word helmet kura kura(kura kura is tortoise:maybe some parties just wanna call it kura kura bcause the shape of the helmet hehe)
Half helmet, yea its look like turtle hard cover or sometimes its look like G.I armies helmet..the reason says that why is this helmet gonna be banned in Malaysian road its because the unsafe of this helmet to the users.Considered its just half and its not covered the user neck and when accident occurred it maybe cause a grievous hurt to the users, and maybe bring death.

U.S Army helmet: Don't use it for riding

I used to use this type of helmet,i have two type of this helmet, actually this half helmet i use when i'm only riding in a short distance, when i'm going to office,to my friend house,to go for coffee and other short journey.I'm only using the open face helmet for long distance ride..the reason is when using this helmet its easy to open and easy to put in the bike basket or put anywhere you want.

Beside half helmet/tortoise helmet(heheh) there is alternative helmet you can use as its more safety and covered your head.
1.fullface helmet
2.Openface helmet.. i did write an articel about helmets in my forum. Its in malay and i write the type of helmets and the pro and contra of each helmet from poodle helmet to open face helmet. Its better you buy and use an expensive and full safety helmet because its do really protect your head and protect your life.

In malaysia i really dont understand that why some bikers ecspecially teenagers that ride kapchai(underbone bikes) ,like to use cheap ,unsafe helmet(like apollo Ms 88: I know it based from the sticker on the helmet) and some other type which the helmet look very unsafe and very thin fiber.I did ask some kid using this helmet and his answer is..it a trend among teen bikers today, its cheap, when the helmet lost or somebody stole it,you dont felt any lost enough..

.hmm..whatever...But better protect your head with good helmet.not with that cheap and lousy one..buy an expensive and good helmet.Which one is important? Your Life or your helmet??
Sorry mr tortoise:i pronounce your name in the blog.I'm not gonna kill you for shell hahahahha

that SGV helmet hybrid thing is SUCH a poor choice i can't even begin to explain it..but i will. it provides no peripheral vision and it will NOT protect your face any better than a regualar half helemet, overall its actually WORSE!!!

Superbikers dont wear half helmets! those who wear it only rempits and easyriders--choppers.

instead of exchanging helmet from half to openface.its better for the gov 'make Fullface a mandatory!' and lower the tax on riding apparel!
